The California Calligraphy Summit: Cali/Graffi
September 23 - October 19, 2006.

The California Calligraphy Summit brings together the work of a dozen artists who are now or have been based in California, for whom calligraphy is central to their artistic exploration. Diverse international and culturally complex written languages inform their inventively experimental work, ranging from abstract to literary, classic to "street." Several of the artists are already acclaimed abroad, while others are just beginning to attract artworld attention for their exciting approaches. This fascinating and multilingual exhibition shows how some of the best art in California ties to the world.

Participating Artists:
Tauba Auerbach, Chen Chi-kwan, Catherine Courtenaye, Ala Ebtekar, Fu Chuan-fu, Wosene Worke Kosrof, Stella Lai, Isaac Lin, John McKenzie, Kazuaki Tanahashi, Mohamed Zakariya, Faye Zhang
