About the Gallery

The mission of the Fine Arts Gallery is to showcase recent developments in local, regional, national and international contemporary and historical art with special focus on representing the diversity of our community and furthering the University's commitment to social justice.

Stillwell Student Exhibit

The vision of the Fine Arts Gallery is to serve a broad and varied audience that includes students, faculty and staff of the University, along with the local arts community and the greater population of the region, while carrying out a program that reflects the range of disciplines taught by SFSU's School of Art. To accomplish this we organize professional artist exhibitions and present the work of student artists. Lectures, performances, film screenings and other public programs serve to expand the discussions initiated in our exhibitions. Student involvement in all aspects of organizing and presenting exhibitions in the Fine Arts Gallery is key to the program.

Projects have been funded by national agencies including the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, Terra Foundation for American Art and the Andy Warhol Foundation; California funders including the Irvine Foundation and California Arts Council; and local foundations including the Walter and Elise Haas Fund, Zellerbach Family Fund, Fleishhacker Foundation, San Francisco Arts Commission and others. The SF State Instructionally Related Student Activities Fund provides basic funding for the gallery's educational mission.
