The Illuminated Library curated by Sharon Bliss with the Fine Arts Gallery
Saturday, September 21, 2013 to Thursday, October 17, 2013
Location: Fine Arts Building, Fine Arts GalleryArtists and books have a long-standing relationship, from the earliest "illuminations" -- exquisite drawings that decorated the margins of early European texts -- through books made by artists, and works that show the collaboration between authors and visual artists, especially compelling in illustrated books for children. This wide-ranging exhibit presents both contemporary and historic explorations of the book form, and the relationship of text and image, including rare illustrated manuscripts borrowed from the Sutro Library and the Special Collections of SF State's J. Paul Leonard Library. Curated by Sharon Bliss with the Fine Arts Gallery.
Reception: September 21, 1pm-3pm. Wednesdays-Saturdays, 11am-4pm. Free.
