2010 Göteborg Book Fair: Focus on Africa

An exhibition of seven posters created in Design Professor Steve Jones’s Community Arts Workshop were displayed in Sweden during September 2010. These posters promoted the focus on African literature of the 2010 Göteborg Book Fair, which attracted 100,000 visitors in four days, and were displayed at the Fair as well as at the University of Gothenburg's Jonsered Conference Center.

A related conference exploring the new cultural diversity in contemporary Europe was co-sponsored by both SF State and the University of Gothenburg.

West to West

West to West is a partnership project aiming to establish stronger relationships between the Western regions of the United States and Sweden. The long term outcome is a cultural and academic exchange that includes various themes, such as integration, urban planning, culture, art and the environment. Previous collaborative projects have included exhibitions including the internationally touring exhibition 'Five Centuries of Swedish Silver from the Röhsska Museet' which was presented in San Francisco, New York, Ottawa and Shanghai, and Pacific Light: A Survey of California Watercolor which was collaboratively organized by San Francisco State University and the Nordic Watercolor Museum.

In September 21, 2010, a seminar hosted at the University of Gothenburg's Jonsered Manor will consider Culture as a Bridge in a Diverse Society and is the introduction to this project. The seminar will specifically look to identify and explore best practices for intercultural dialog through art education, exhibition and cultural policy.
